“When I think about my artwork, I have to stop and ask myself: what does it mean to me, and what could it mean to the viewer. When first looking at a scene, I want to feel emotion and form an image in my mind of transforming in on canvas. it must influence my thougthts and vision. Finally, the work should produce a flow of balance in colours and shapes so the eye moves with a sense of peaceful and quiet emotion. A lingering look is important.”

Her interest in art began in Grande Prairie, Alberta, and the beauty of western Canada has largely influenced her work. Oils were her training ground medium, and she later included acrylics and watercolours with instructors such as Tom Lynch, Robert Genn and workshops in Sedona, Arizona. She has taken courses with Robin Lake, inti. artist Daniel Smith and on location with Les Graff and Penticton's Glenn Clark, and has attended numerous workshops in and out of the FCA. Marlene has earned awards in 3 mediums and been accepted for juried shows in Calgary, Vancouver and the South Okanagan. She has been shown in published editions of "Contemporary B.C. Artists" and "Painting on the Edge". She was also commissioned for original works and prints for Prestige Inns. She has been an active member of the "Federation of Canadian Artists" since 1992, and the "Brushstrokes of the South Okanagan". Her works are now displayed in the Picture This Gallery.
