PERMANENT COLLECTION
Our collection features over 2,500 works of art pertaining to our region and it's history.
Between 1947 – 1985, the predecessor to today’s Gallery oversaw the acquisition of 35 donations of art. Among the most notable donations were works by Julia Bullock-Webster, Jack Shadbolt, Toni Onley, and a series of serigraphs depicting works by some of Canada's leading artists, produced by Sampson Mathews Ltd. under the guidance of A.J. Casson.
In 1993, the then Art Gallery of the South Okanagan Permanent Collection saw tremendous growth with the acquisition of comprehensive bodies of work by Toni Onley, Joseph Plaskett, Inuit sculptures from the Salter Family, and donations from the estates of Kathleen Daly, Minn Sjolseth, and a donation of artwork collected by the Okanagan Mainline Regional Arts Council.
Since 2012, our collection has grown to include significant bodies of work by Judith Foster, Muriel Furley, Bettina Somers, Jean Settle, Jack Shadbolt, Alastair Bell, Terry Munro, Allan Wood, Lincoln Clarke, Les McKinnon, Bob Steele, Irvine Adams, Thomas Fripp, and Takao Tanabe.
The collection continues to develop and grow to best reflect the development of the visual arts in British Columbia, and boasts one of the strongest collections tracing the development of the noted artist Toni Onley’s career. The scope of the collection continues to be focused on the artists and the art history of British Columbia and that of the Okanagan region. We will continue to build upon our existing collection, particularly expanding our current holdings of artwork created by women and Indigenous artists in British Columbia. We hope to have the entire collection digitally documented and featured here on our website.
