Chapter Four: Noll Derriksan (1940-2020): Craft or Fine Art, its all about semantics
Saturday April 22, 2023

Explore the rise of the contemporary Indigenous art movement in Canada from the late 1950's to present day through the incredible life story and artistic legacy of Westbank's, Noll Derriksan (1940-2020). His is a complex story one which illustrates the challenges with how we see and value the legacy of an artist and whose work is worthy of being collected by museums and documented as part of our art history. Its also a question of semantics and in particular the fine line that divides fine art and craft. This is a deep well and one we will revisit again later in this series.
