Artist Statement: Art to me is a personal journey. My work reflects my love of nature. I take my time and use a rather detailed and spiritual approach. I explore different media and themes, from bright colors to black and white, with fine gray shades. Large and small, bold and delicate, sensual and reflective, so is "Nature" and also what I try to capture.

Biography: Born in 1954 in West Germany. Four years of study at the “Academy of Fine Arts” in Karlsruhe. My main study was in Painting and Drawing under R. Kuechenmeister. Additional courses in Sculpture, Graphic Arts, Photography, Woodworking, Art History, Psychology and Philosophy.

I immigrated to British Columbia in 1975, to realize my dream of living in the country and close to nature. My lifestyle was reflected in my Artwork, as a constant interplay between people and their environment. I studied and experimented with traditional painting techniques (Old Masters) and learned to make my own oil paints. I spend many hours, weeks, even months with every piece, from preparation to finish. My focus is more on creating an image with a deeper meaning, conveying a mood or a story, that is leading the viewer into a different world of visual exploration. I am an old fashioned painter. Like in the song “Old time Rock and Roll”, I am looking for " The soul" in music and in art.

During the 70ties and 80ties, I had exhibitions in most cities of the Okanagan, Kootenays and in Spokane WA. I had regular shows at the “Brackendale Art Gallery” and participated in “Group Shows” and competitions all over North America.

For several years I taught art classes through “Selkirk College” or privately.

Since the 90ties I have been mostly a “Part Time Artist" painting for my own enjoyment only. Over the years my focus shifted more into the spiritual aspect of nature, and painting as a form of meditation and personal exploration. It has been a rich and interesting experience. I branched out into Watercolor, Acrylic, and mixed media, as well as a variety of drawing mediums. I have worked in many different Styles over the years. My early work being very different from later years. Some themes like "The forest" series, spanning many years, whilst other pieces were "one off" experimental. I was lucky to be able to lead a life style, which allowed me to spend so many hours, just being creative.

I have kept my artwork and life mostly private. Rather than having shows, I have passed on my smaller works as gifts and donations. Many larger pieces are in my own private collection. They will become available for sale. If interested, please send me an email to: albertglaas@yahoo.com
