The Next Chapter: Alvin Elif Constant “Wandering Spirit"  (1946-2006)

The Penticton Art Gallery is seeking the public's help in locating works of art and stories relating to the artist Alvin Elif Constant for an exhibition scheduled to open there on Saturday, November 18, 2023, and run until Saturday, January 20, 2024. This Know More Art Tak will be discussing the life, art, and legacy of the artist, who was one of the first artists Paul Crawford remembers meeting. The memories of watching him paint made a deep impression on many. During this talk we will also discuss the challenges faced by many Indigenous artists historically, with little to no records of their work, their often short and tragic lives, and a lack of recognition outside their community. Penticton Art Gallery hopes that this exhibition will help bridge this gap in our collective art history and raise awareness of these artists' lives and legacies. The Penticton Art Gallery is seeking artworks and stories related to Alvin Constant “Wandering Spirit" for the exhibition and is inviting the public to this artist talk to understand their memories and find out why we are in search of those who can lend their artworks for this exhibition.
