Free Family Day Community Canvas Event
The Penticton Art Gallery and the Penticton & District Community Arts Council are excited to announce its upcoming Family Day event, scheduled to take place on February 17th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at Penticton Art Gallery.
The highlight of the event will be a collaborative canvas project, where kids and families can come together to contribute to a communal painting. This canvas, once completed, will be transformed into something special for the “Parade for No Reason” during the Ignite the Arts Festival, set to take place on March 29th at 6:30 pm. Participants will have the opportunity to work alongside two Artists in Residence (AIR) from the PDCAC, as well as local Artist Jenny Long, who will guide them through the creative process.
In addition to the canvas project, the tearoom space in the Penticton Art Gallery will host other creative activities such as rock painting and coloring pages. Refreshments and snacks will also be provided for attendees to enjoy throughout the event.
Chelsea Terry, PAG Communications Coordinator, expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, "We are thrilled to offer a space where families of all kinds can come together and unleash their creativity. This event is not only about creating art but also about building connections within our community, something the missions of both PDCAC and PAG have in common.”
Thanks to a partnership and grant with BC Museums Association, funding has been secured to allocate for Artist in Residence fees, refreshments, and materials, giving the ability for the two arts organizations to present these activities for free to anyone who wishes to participate.
Attendees to the Family Day Community Canvas event are encouraged to join in the fun and return to join in the parade during Ignite the Arts.
