Kitchen Stove Film | I, Daniel Blake

April 27, 2017 I, DANIEL BLAKE (UK, FRA, BEL) 4 PM and 7 PM

Director: Ken Loach Cast: Dave johns, Hayley Squires Running Time: 100 min

Daniel Blake is an affable 59-year-old middle class widower in Newcastle recovering from a heart attack and seeking fi-nancial assistance from the state. Government illogic stipulates that his benefits will be taken away unless he looks for work, yet doctor’s orders prevent him from working. At the welfare office, Daniel meets single mother Katie, whom he befriends, offering his platonic friendship and gentle, grandfatherly support to her and her two children. Deservedly the winner of the coveted 2016 Palm d’Or award at Cannes, this is a rare and unapologetic political drama which touches the soul and reminds us of the power of simple compassion. Director Ken Loach and the outstanding lead actors have created fictional, yet very real people, whom we will not soon forget.
