Creative Kids is a 9 week summer program hosted by the gallery, made capable by funding from Young Canada Works. Each week offers a fun and interactive program of independent and collaborative activities which seeks to develop and strengthen creative skills, build self-esteem, encourage self-expression and stimulate imagination in children through the arts. Each participant will be provided with hands-on instruction and a wide range of fun projects which explore the possibilities of drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture with activities taking place both in the gallery and in surrounding recreational areas.

Week 2 | Around the World in Five Days

Come along with us as we explore the architecture and ways of life in five contemporary cities: Ottawa, Tokyo, Sydney, Edinburgh, and Chicago.
Week 3 | Iconic Comics
Monday, July 15th to Friday, July 19th
Join us as we look at the history of comics. We will examine the origins of Manga, newspaper comic strips, Pop Art, and enter into the Marvel universe!
Week 4 | The Grand Tour from England to Italy
Monday, July 22nd to Friday, July 26th
Step into the shoes of a 17th century European student! We will travel from England to Italy learning about historical tourism and ways of travel.
Week 5 | Space Race
Monday, July 29th to Friday, August 2nd
Let’s explore the history of space travel and science fiction from the Atomic Age to present day!
Week 6 | The Ancients
Tuesday, August 6th to Friday, August 9th
Travel back in time to ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, and China. We will learn about ways of life and belief of the distant past.
Week 7 | From Impressionism to Cubism: Five Art “isms”
Monday, August 12th to Friday, August 16th
Come along to this crash course of modern art history! We will visit famous names and places during five major art movements: Impressionism, Pointillism, Surrealism, Fauvism, and Cubism.
Week 8 | Money, Money, Money
Monday, August 19th to Friday, August 23rd
Let’s examine the history of money from the first excavated coins to the modern Canadian Mint! We will make our own currency complete with security features.
Week 9 | An Empire of Things
Monday, August 26th to Friday, August 30th
Join us as we visit rulers and monarchs throughout history, from Alexander to Queen Elizabeth II.
